A careful introspection of history and our social construct seem to favour the narrative of average men having fathered sons and great men who mostly presume to have their male heir inherit them end up with daughters mostly as first born or no male child situation.
The British monarch for instance has been a classic example with king Henry VIII going the extreme of eliminating his two wives in quest for a male hire, which eventually ending up with the birth of his daughters inheriting the throne.
In our current dispensation, we have great men Barack Obama,Mandela, Muhammed Ali,Kim Jong Un, and Vladimir Putin all having daughters are their direct heir 
In fact in some cases great women prefer male heirs over daughters which is an irony
